Nasty, icy build-up on the north facing sidewalk along Hampden Avenue in Denver, Colorado. If you have ever driven down Hampden Avenue you know the situation. The ice can sit there for weeks making it impossible for pedestrians to walk on the sidewalk or let bus passengers wait for the bus.
7News is asking, who should be responsible for it? The city of Denver says there is no question-it’s the responsibility of the homeowners. However, this particular sidewalk sits behind a sound wall in the backyards of several homes on Hampden Circle and they do not have direct access to the sidewalk. To make matters worse, the law has not been enforced for years and homeowners have not been ticketed for the issue until Monday, when many of them received $150 fines. (December 12, 2011)
Julius Zsako, who works for the city of Denver said:
The bottom line is, sidewalk safety is a very important issue in Denver.
The fines were imposed this week, in part, because someone fell and got hurt. The issue seems unresolved at this time but the fines can continue.

First of all let me say “Boy am I glad to live in Orlando”.
I enjoyed reading your article expecially when it comes to government vs home owners. It is interesting, I always presumed a side walk was the city’s responsibility. Question: was the reason it was the home owners responibility because the city didn’t put them in ?
